The end of this difficult year will nevertheless delight us with a traditional event - Short Film Day, symbolically celebrated during the shortest days of winter - from December 17th to December 31st. Since 2014 the event has been initiated by the Youth Center of the Russian Cinematographers Union. In 2019 and 2020 the project was supported by the Presidential Grants Foundation.

As part of this event, VOSTOK will proudly screen a programme of Russian short film hits from 2018 and 2019. These short films have been selected and won awards at Rotterdam
and Oberhausen, as well as Indielisboa, GoEast, SHNIT and Kinotavr. Among them is a film by the well established Russian writer-director Mikhail Mestetsky, debut films by Russian actresses Yana Gladkikh, Alina Nasibulina and Irina Khodyush.

Also, the audience will see a poignant social documentary film by Alina Kotova and Vladlena Sandu, winner of the Silver Eye award granted by the Institute Of Documentary Film.

We are glad to inform you that a master class from VOSTOK has been scheduled to coincide with the Short Film Day event. An open-talk with representatives of Euro Connection, T-Port and Courant3D will be held on Sunday, December 20, from 16:00 to 18:00 Moscow time on Zoom.

SPEAKERS

Laurent Crouzeix will be the first of the three speakers. In 1995, after studying literature and linguistics at the Université Blaise Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand) and Goldsmiths College (London), Laurent joined the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Laurent is the Executive Director of the Film Festival and Film Market in Clermont-Ferrand, responsible for its international development. Prior to that, he was the director of the competition programs of the film festival (1998-2017) and the curator of several major retrospectives. In 2004, Laurent created Shortfilmdepot.com with Roger Gonin. In 2009, he opened the Euro Connection co-production forum. as part of the short film market in Clermont-Ferrand. Laurent received his directing education, continuing his studies at La Fémis (2009) and Les Gobelins (2017), wrote and directed his debut short film Amerigo and the New World (2019) together with the Chilean director Luis Briceño. Laurent Cruzeix is currently working on one game project and one hybrid project.

The second speaker at the master class will be Amos Geva, head of the T-Port online platform for short and student films. The platform was created by the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival and the Gesher Multicultural Cinema Foundation, with the support of Creative Europe MEDIA. Amos Geva is a graduate of Atelier Ludwisgburg-Paris. He has extensive directing and production experience, specializing in international co-production. Thanks to this, he is successfully coordinating partnerships between representatives of the film business and young talents.

Also at the open-talk will be François Serre, teacher, director of the Courant3D immersive and interactive cinema festival and film forum in Angoulême, France, program director of the new technologies sections at Nouvelles Technologies / Nouvelles Écritures at several international film festivals, including in Clermont-Ferrand. François regularly organizes conferences and educational missions in film schools in the USA, Africa and Asia.
